HOW CUTE!!! (talking about the cat!! I have an orange and white tabby who also sports this look--half an orange mustache and a brown dot -- or mole dare I say?--on his nose!)

I can't wait to hear about the new toy as well--it is cute too.

Is this a real G1G1 XO laptop? Might you be the very first to get one? Do tell!!

Did you ever get a message from UPS that it was on its way? Or did it just suddenly "show up"? I haven't heard of anyone else even knowing for sure if they had shipped yet (I mean something besides the somewhat weak implication in the weekly news). Where did it ship from? I figured it would be coming from one of the coasts, but to get yours first in Minnesota? Are you just a G1G1 like the rest of us, or do you have some other connection to olpc?

Normally, I would be concerned having a laptop, a drink, and a nearby pet cat that could knock the glass over and spill its contents onto the laptop's keyboard. But not with the OLPC XO!

If this was a G1G1, did it come with the code to activate the complimentary T-mobile hotspot access?

Hi there!

How do you find the screen, in its various modes? I am trying to keep my expectations slightly lowered, but it's difficult ;) I've been downloading various free eBooks with which to keep it occupied, too.

Do the included directions give any directions as to how long to charge it (if at all) before use?

(That cat is thinking of ways to destroy the laptop, but that's not evil, it's just QA.)

Congrats on getting yours! I'm curious if you got any advance warning as well. I'm not a First Day Donor but I'm hoping their "conservative estimates" will still mean I'll get mine by January if I'm lucky!

I can't wait for mine :) I've got on being sent to a friend in Canada - then have to wait until she comes over in the Spring. ...

Doug,

Does the directional pad to the left of the screen depress in only 4 directions or will it depress in 8? Is this essentially another set of up,down, left, right keys on the keyboard? Many of us will want to put MAME on this machine via USB stick or SD card when we get it. The gamepad would be a great feature for this but will essentially be usless for many MAME games unless it depresses in all 8 directions, and the driver is written to allow this.

I received mine yesterday (Dec 15). It arrived via Fed EX. I did not get an email first,so I was very excited to see it had arrived. Mine did come with instructions for signing up for the complimentary 1 year of T-Mobile Hotspot access.I'm guessing there will be a promo code of some sort to enter in the T-Mobile ordering page. If anyone has any information about this please email me. Thanks! PS I have been playing with this for a few hours already and it's great for browsing.

i did not have to charge the battery first and there were no instructions to do so. The battery lasts a heck of a lot longer than the one for my traditional laptop--I think it lives up to the promotional claims. I ordered mine on the 2nd or 3rd day so maybe they are being sent based on location as well.

^^ I meant to say mine did not have t-mobile info . . .

Received mine on 12/14. It came via Fedex and was just left at my front door. Received an email with the T-Mobile instructions but have not started that up yet. Oddly, I received an email saying it was on its way 4 days after I received it.

My notification came a week late. See:

At least it is here!

got mine today (12/19) by surprise. cannot get online with either wep or wpa enabled on my airport. did not get anything in mail about Tmobile access point.

Anyone have a tip on getting online (other than disabling pswd on the network, which might work but I'm not doing)?

this thing is TINY.
