Changes
Inspired, I suppose, by Scott McLeod's series of postings in Dangerously Irrelevant on change, I decided to change my web host and e-mail provider. Maybe getting that $60 monthly bill from current webhost along with poor tech support may have had something to do with it too.
As with most large complex tasks, I am in the middle, am in a muddle, and am regretting I ever started this. But it will get better.
First things first. My new "non-school" email address is doug0077@gmail.com and my new professional website URL is http://dougjohnson.squarespace.com
I am NOT changing my blog provider.
My current email address, dougj@doug-johnson, and web URL http://www.doug-johnson.com will eventually work again - inshallah.
One of the things I am happy about is that the new webhosting site, squarespace.com - the same company that hosts the Blue Skunk blog - will allow me to post materials as a blog on Doug Johnson site. So I will be adding my articles, columns and other writings as as blog posts. If you are interested, this is the RSS feed for the blog portion of the new website:

The blog has a nice feature that allows a person to select a "View printer friendly version" of each entry. There is also a pretty good search engine for the site. And it will be easier to edit and keep stylistically uniform.
Do remember this is a work-in-progress, and it will take a while before everything gets moved over. If there is something you need immediately (and article for a class, a handout for a presentation, etc.) let me know and I will make it available right away.
Change is good - you go first.

I'm a big fan of Squarespace. I'm using it for my own personal site (www.scottmcleod.net), CASTLE (www.schooltechleadership.org; it needs some work!), and a variety of other CASTLE projects (e.g., www.schooldatatutorials.org). I've had excellent customer service and think the prices are more than reasonable.
Like I said before Doug... let me know if you need any help getting things moved over to your new site. I know the process isn't the funnest to do, but its just like moving to a new house. When you move, you tend to do some "house cleaning" and I suppose the same would be true for moving to a new hosting provider.
Hi Jim,
I appreciate the help with the domain re-routing. Seems to be working well now. Had to do a little tweaking of the new site as well. The email forwarding is working too. I am impressed with gmail's filter.
I expected the move to the new webhost to be a pain since I had so much content on the other site - literally hundreds of articles and columns. Since the two sites handle html differently, there is no mass import. Plus this gives me a chance to do a little house cleaning.
Thanks again for the help!
Doug
