Time management fundamentals
I've enjoyed many of the short publications produced by ChangeThis. "The New Time Management: Simply Focus on the Fundamentals, and Toss Away the Tips" by Francis Wade is one of the better efforts.
Wade writes:
...millions of PDA’s, Blackberries and copies of Microsoft Outlook are sold each year to well-intentioned knowledge workers who don’t know the fundamentals. They might come to understand the 40 features contained in the new Palm Treo, but their ignorance of the fundamentals leaves them in a struggle to incorporate the new technology into their daily lives.
and offers "7 core fundamentals that all professionals must employ to transform time demands into action: Capturing, Emptying, Tossing, Storing, Acting Now, Scheduling and Listing."
Good, short read.

After reading (and enjoying) a little bloggish navel gazing (why am I doing this and what does it mean?) by my buddies Cathy Jo Nelson, Scott McLeod, and Vicki Davis, I'm thinking that blogging for me is just a form of procrastination.
I really should be working on my Monday night preso in Second Life! I just finished reading last week Presentation Zen and trying to apply the concepts. I may finally be reaching zero bullet point nirvana.

Good luck zenning your presentations. The book was a real eye opener for me but also has taken me a lot of time to rework everything. The presentations flow a LOT more smoothly and I see that the audience (and I) are a lot more engaged. It sure is tough -- istockphoto became my best friend -- just because I can find the photos so quickly and don't have to worry about the license. That is the flip side challenge is the graphic demands on the author of the slides -- he also suggests having different slides for the presentation and for the presentation upload -- are you going to do that too?
AM so looking forward to the preso too!! Yes, confession, blogging may very well be another form of procrastination for me too. Wow, that felt good to get off the chest too.
Hi Vicki,
Over the past few years, I've been gradually reducing the word count and upping the picture count in my PPTs anyway. This one, however, I am trying consciously to follow the Zen-ster's advice!
I've been just using Google images for the photos I want. Mostly to make a point during the talk on copyright that fair use extends further than most educators believe.
I rarely share my actual PPTs so I only make a single version.
Take care and thanks for the comment,
Doug
Hi Cathy,
See, the reason for blogging is not so mysterious!
Take care and see you in SL!
Doug
