Sneaky spam?

I've been getting a number of comments on the Blue Skunk that look like this:

Margaret <dayana.________@gmail.com> (Unregistered) commented on 13 Point Checklist updated:

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.

Pretty much devoid of content but with a very visible, active  link to an external website. Are these spam or some misguided marketing ploy? I've been deleting them.

I detest sneaks.

Or am I just being paranoid???

Totally spam. These show up all the time, and most bloggers seem oblivious, so I appreciate you noticing them and taking the time to think about it.

Do a search for "I recently came across your blog and have been reading along..." and you will find that exact same comment posted to numerous other blogs. The links they provide are seemingly on topic, so I suspect this is someone trying out new spam software or this is step one of multi-step attack. Keep deleting them!

I love those replies! Especially the ones whose posts are shorter than the email sites they are trying to pass along.

As already noted, totally spam--the pseudocontent is only there for the link. I've seen some that even appear to have content, until you look closely. Take it as a compliment of sorts: If you didn't have a significant web presence, you wouldn't get this kind of spam, since it's mostly to raise Google Page Rank (as far as I can tell).

Hi Eric,

Hadn't thought to do search on the wording. A technique I'll keep in mind in the future.

Thanks,

Doug

Thanks, Walt. I take all spam as a compliment except that which hints I could use some "male enhancement."

Hi Ken,

I'm on to you people. The guy from Nigeria promised me $25 million and I only $15 million! Talk about a scam!

All the best,

Doug

Just got my first comment on one of my five blogs that I've been basically scrapping to. The whole blog thing was new to me and when Google put the SendTo option on its toolbar and added it to my right click quick menu (excellerator keys) I started using it right away.

I was so happy that someone had finally commented on one of my blogs! I had posted stuff there that I had written, and posted stuff there that I had scrapped and sent to everyone I know, but no one had commented, ever! I doubted anyone had ever been to any of my blogs or cared to read anything on any of them.

So when I got this comment, I thought: WOW! Great! This is so cool! It came on the same day that I got one of my first legit comments on one of my youtube efforts (same deal there, but at least, youtube totals the vids views so I know someone has seen it). I was so stoked to get that comment on my youtube video and then on the same day, I got a comment on one of my blogspots! I was so happy!

While the youtube comment was legit, the obvious blogger comment was not. :-( I deleted the comment... Should I delete the entire post?
