I had to smile about this post, I got to see one of these little gems up close and personal this past weekend .my nephew has one. But as I looked it over I kept thinking "would I ever be able to figure out how to use this thing to it's full potential? Do I even know enough about technology to do that?" I have to ad mit that the nephew who owns the ipad has a dad that works on computers fixing them and "cleaning" them for a hobby. HE LOVES that stuff! Me, I am but a humble teacher librarian in elementary school. We have 94% free and reduced lunch and most of our kids are just starting to have computers at home. How in the world do these things relate to that population? As we look at the speed of the production of technology and reduction of the money given to the schools for these kinds of things what an amazing job we have ahead to just teach kids how to manouver safely around computer websites and on the internet. So I guess for some of us it's cool to have itunes and the wallstreet journal at our fingertips but maybe others of us just need to figure out how to know whether or not the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus Websiteis a reliable website . I'm just sayin'!!
Interesting comment (and moral problem!). I see devices like this being used less for research among younger kids than as platforms for educational gaming and reference. Such interactive devices may be the way to reach a lot of children for whom traditional school is not effective. I think we all need to have both open minds and critical eyes here.

Hi Robin,
You will have fun with your iPad. I've been thinking iPad are sort of the sports cars of the computer world - sort of luxury, but every enjoyable.
All the best,
Doug
Oh, I can only do text to my blog so far - no pictures :-(
