Heart of the problem?

So long as educational decisions continue to be made not by seasoned educators (who engage with parents about the well-being of their children) but by politicians, bureaucrats, think tanks, businesspeople, foundation functionaries, and pundits—few of whom have been in a school since they got their diploma—our nation's education system will be in deep trouble. In a Nutshell.

This came up in a class recently after watching several TED Talks that go against everything that is happening in education today -- particularly from the Dept. of Ed. all the way down. Unfortunately, Grodin, Dunlap, Robinson, and Pink are not the ones making the decisions.

Hi Floyd,

I am guessing that Ravitch would categorize them as pundits as well!

That's one smart remark from one smart woman. When you really begin to think about it, it's truly preposterous that people who have little insight into what makes a thriving educational enviroment make all the decisions regarding it... Bah!

Hi Tove,

I really like the Bridging Differences blog. Always well-thought out commentary on national education issues.
