Two-way recognition
From yesterday's e-mail...
Hi Doug,
My name is Diane and I work with Dominican University School of Education. I came across your blog and enjoyed the different posts you have on education ideas for school programs and teachers. The Blue Skunk Blog is such a great resource for our Masters of Education in Reading students. Your posts consistently inspire lively discussions. “BFTP: So just what should librarians be teaching? ” was an informative post about different library programs, and the roles librarians should have with the school and students. I agree that if future library programs provide high interest materials for students this can help improve the reading skills in school programs. As we train our education students, I often search for resources online to use as part of our classroom discussion. Thus, your website has been very useful. Well done!
OK, Diane, flattery will get you anywhere with me. But what do you want?
Since your site has been such a help, we chose it as one of Dominican University’s “Top Sites for Education.” Congratulations! We are happy to recognize your website as a top resource for our class of elementary education students. To mark this achievement, I have included an award badge at the bottom of this email.
A badge? No cash?
Once the code is added to your site, it will appear like the award pictured below. If you are interested, I would also like to list your site as one of my top 20 resources for {Elementary Education/ESL/Reading and Literacy} teachers. This list will be found on our Educational Resource section linked here http://www.dominicanu.com/masters-in-education-resources/.
Thanks for all of the help that you have offered our students. We appreciate it! Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Diane Pierre-Louis

So OK, I know this is advertising for Dominican's online education program - and online programs are fiercely competitive. I didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
I feel OK with supporting this program. Despite its questionable taste in blogs, I recognize Dominican's long standing reputation as a high quality school.
Plus the badge is really pretty.
