Generation We

This from my buddy Ian Jukes. Not sure of the political sponsorship or agenda, but well worth watching:

I feel both guilty and encouraged.

Oh, and a different perspective from just thinking of today's kids as Generation Wii.

Hi Doug,

Well put:' I feel both guilty and encouraged.'

Interesting to note the themes of the video: positive connections to technology, environment, politics, global awareness, end to poverty, equality of health care, education, nutrition, call to action.

It's a well written and directed video shining a ray of light from our future leaders.

Wow. That was slick. Thanks for sharing.

That one is going onto my school network pronto. If you can't buy into those ideas, you will probably be terribly frustrated attempting to educate the youth of today and int he near future. I always fall back on one of the ideas I got from Todd Whitaker a few years back, along the lines of... the only element you can reliably change in the classroom is yourself.

I think of this when I hear teacher too often talk about the qualities they need to see in kids for them to succeed in their classroom. That goes both ways at the very least. ;-)

Thanks, Paul ad Sean.

I hope all educators see and bring out these positive attribute in today’s kids. I am personally impressed by the ones I know!

As a member of "Generation We" I see the potential of my generation to do great things in our country. Some of the ideas, poverty, education, nutrition, and health care, in this video are taking huge steps in today's world. While this video calls for all kinds of improvements, the main focus of someone within the "Generation We" has to be the calling to become "one." This is a simple statement that has so much significance behind the word. My generation is going to see our first black President in office and graduation rates of African Americans at an all time high. The possiblities of this generation are endless, I just hope the potential is not spoiled.

Thanks, Stephen, for this comment. I share your hope that the potential of your generation is not lost. I am wildly optimistic, however.

If you are interested, there is a free downloadable book that supports the video here: <http://www.gen-we.com/> I am not completely done with it, but what I have read is good.

All the best,

Doug

Doug,

Thank you for this information, I have already looked into these books and find them very interesting. Also, I just wanted to take the time to tell you that your blog is an everyday stop for me. I enjoy the postings and read them everyday. One thing that I found rather amusing was the sayings for shirts posted within the site. Where do you find the time to work on your website and answer blogs?

Hi Steven,

When people ask where I find the time, I usually reply that I don’t play golf or have affairs so I plenty of time ;-)

I am one of those fortunate people who love what they do and my vocation is also my avocation. Never feels like work.

Thank you for the kind words,

Doug
